Grass Widow

GrassWidow

This freezing cold morning could not have had a more perfect soundtrack than the first track off this Grass Widow LP. The bare production has a cold feeling of its own, giving the guitar strings and snare shots a punchy, almost hollow sound that reminds me of the Young Marble Giants or the spareness of that first Excuse 17 record. What warms this LP up like mittens and a cup of hot chocolate is the dueling female vocals, which wind their way through each song independently of each other, rarely coming together but never stumbling or fighting for attention. The San Francisco pop revival just keeps getting better.
